Sun Tugs – Where are they now?

The only former Sun tug on the Thames today is SUNCREST operated by General Marine and laid up since 2004. However we tracked down a few which still operate today

Ex SUN II in Chalkida, Greece (ex SUN III is also a fleet mate behind)

KINGSTON (Ex SUN XXIV) operated by Griffin Towage

SAGA SUN & SAGA MOON (ex Sun XXVI) in Trinidad

(Saga Star caught fire and was broken up last year)

  1. My late uncle was a skipper on a pla launch on the river. I can remember the sun tugs working and tied up at their moorings. The Thames in those days being the fifties was like a motorway, with ships from all over the world discharging or taking on cargo in he London and Tilbury docks. My uncles then were all associated with the river in H M Customs and working for P O then now just memories of the mind, those years ago.

  2. I think it is important to remember the heritage,as it stood for something then ,but also in history of thre river Thames
