Plans : New Blackfriars Pier and moving of HMS President

Posted on

These are the proposed plans for Blackfriars Pier to be situated below the bridge and HMS President to be moved further up river into the old Chrysanthemum Pier moorings to allow dredging and work to take place on the embankment wall where the current Blackfriars Pier is now.

For HMS President:
 Removal of the existing piles at Chrysanthemum Pier and installation of new driven piles;
 Dredging the river bed to accommodate the vessels draught – approximately 750 m3
for the temporary position and 2,600 m3for the permanent re-location of the vessel
 Installation of sheet piling between the dredged areas and the river wall as a means of reducing
sediment loss from the foreshore fronting the river wall – approximately 26 m for the temporary position
and 136 m at the permanent relocation;
 Installation of anchors for mooring lines.

For the relocated Blackfriars Millennium Pier:
 A pier length of 81 m, longer than that in the application for development consent (57 m);
 The length of sheet piling between the dredged areas and the river wall is proposed to increase from
69m to 148m;
 Dredging the river bed – the quantity of dredging would increase from 2,500m3
(in the application) to approximately 3,000m3
 Installation of a gabion mattress covering 265 m2at the eastern end of the dredged area;
 A cofferdam associated with an existing cooling water tunnel outfall
